A few evenings ago, Jim came into the living room all excited about seeing not two, but three black cats on our porch through his front office window.
We both rushed outside to meet the new arrival and determine if it might be family to our two. Interestingly, only our two lovely black kitties were wandering around the porch, begging for a bite to eat . . .
I teased Jim a little about seeing things, and about working too hard. Several days went by, and then he called me into his office late at night. “Now look,” he whispered. “Is that one of our cats, or is it a different cat altogether?”
The moonlight was filtering through the Crepe Myrtle trees, giving just enough light to see the pure black cat with yellow eyes sitting peacefully on our porch railing.
“Well,” I whispered back, “I honestly don’t know. It looks a lot like Magic, but somewhat bigger.”
Just then, the cat turned its large head directly toward me, staring at me through the window and screen. I was positive then that it wasn’t Magic, and it didn’t look much like Captain Catfish either.
Jim suggested that he go turn the porch light on, and open the door going out to the porch. I was to stay at the window and see what the cat would do. If it was Magic or Captain Catfish, we knew it would sit right there, waiting for a treat or petting.
No sooner had Jim flipped the light on and turned the doorknob, than that cat took off like a flash!
I hurried out to the porch with Jim; there snuggled on the porch sofa were our two beautiful black cats, as calm and peaceful as could be.
And so, I guess Jim really was seeing things. . . a huge black cat, in fact.
If it decides to hang around, at some point I suppose we shall name him/her. I’m thinking Flash would be the perfect name!
