Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about angels. I don’t know why, but things just keep coming to me throughout the day; questions such as, have I ever entertained an angel and not realized it? Do I have a guardian angel who watches over me? Would I recognize an angel if I saw one? What color are angels? Are they all white as we assume, or do they have various colors like the birds of this world do?
Now, I don’t know about you, but when I get something on my mind, it seems I just keep at it, rather like an old hound-dog with a bone, until either something else comes along to take its place, or I get tired of thinking about it. And sometimes, like today, something happens that makes me want to know more.
Today, I was taking my walk, as I do most days. Moving along at a goodly pace for the first two miles, I then decided to take the third mile a little more slowly, just enjoy the beautiful day and rather absorb my surroundings. I had taken only a few steps after deciding such, when suddenly, right in front of me floated a feather, no, make that two. Looking upward, I was sure I would see a goose, a duck, or a bird of some sort far overhead. That was the only logical explanation for two small feathers to come floating my way.
Seeing no birds anywhere in sight I was puzzled. Finally, I leaned down and picked up the feathers which were now resting on the ground. I was amazed to find that the larger one was a beautiful emerald green all down one side. The other half was a soft mauve gray. The smaller feather, although attached somewhat to the larger one, was a pure silver that faded to a bit darker on the tip.
Perhaps what intrigued me most about the color of the first feather was that it was exactly the color of my birthstone. How unusual is that? Second in my thoughts was where did these feathers come from? Immediately my imagination took over, and for those of you who know me well, you must know that I have a bit of an imagination!
Now, it is my understanding that Angels are mentioned in the New Testament in the Bible on a number of occasions. Of course there is the birth of Christ, whereby the angels made their announcement. But there are several others. Heavenly angels also came to minister to Him when he had been in the desert for forty days fasting and being tormented by Satan and his demons. There are several references to guardian angels in the Bible and other old Rabbinical writings.
It is not at all difficult for me to believe that I do have a guardian angel, and that it watches over me as needed.
And so, while I understand that these beautiful little feathers may simply be from some bird far up in the clouds, I have to wonder, did they perhaps fall from my very own guardian angel, as he/she stood guard over me, high up in the heavens? Was he doing battle on my behalf over something I was completely unaware of? Was he bearing me up as I meandered along on my walk, keeping me from harm?
I wonder.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Psalm 91:11-12 (KJV)
