Preheat oven to 350 degrees (it is important to preheat the oven as this will impact the cooking time)
INGREDIENTS
2 (8oz cans) refrigerated croissant rolls – I like Pillsbury best
2 (8oz) packages of cream cheese – personally, I like Philadelphia best
1 cup white granulated sugar
1 egg (whipped)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* (Optional) ½ cup favorite fruit spread or jam – my homemade Fig Jam was awesome!
TOPPING INGREDIENTS
½ cup (1 stick) butter or margarine – I like to use real butter
¼ cup white granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Press one can of the croissant rolls into the bottom of the prepared pan. In a medium bowl, mix together the cream cheese, 1 cup of sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth and creamy.Spread over the croissant layer. (*at this point you could add your jam over the cream cheese mix if desired – it is great with or without).
Unroll the second can of croissant rolls and lay them on top of the cream cheese/jam layer. Do not press down. Pour the melted butter over the entire pan. Combine the remaining ¼ cup of sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over the top.
(Or, another idea is that you can heat a ½ cup of honey, add ¼ tsp ginger and 1 tsp cinnamon — and use that instead of the sugar and cinnamon. This is awesome as well!)
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in preheated oven, or until top is crisp and golden. This dish makes an excellent addition to your Christmas or Easter Brunch or Tea!
Enjoy!
