Giving it Your Best

Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.  1 Corinthians 10:31

“When we do the best that we can,
we never know what miracle is wrought in our life,
or in the life of another.”  ~Helen Keller

God calls us to use the talents He has given us. He calls us work, learn, acquire, plan, and dream.

Somehow, we at times feel uncomfortable with the idea that God might be urging us, calling us, to be ambitious. After all, if He wants us to succeed, couldn’t He just reach down with His mighty finger and touch us with miraculous opportunities?

He could, of course; and sometimes I am sure He must. However, more often than not, He expects us to do our part ~ to put out some effort.

We are urged in Scripture to live a life of kindness, long suffering, love, a life of service for the Kingdom of God. What does that look like in your life today?

For many years, Jim and I served in pastoral ministry. I loved every part of that work. Well, almost! Of course, there were a few things I would rather not have done, such as running a daycare for six or seven years. That was far out of my scope of knowledge at the time, and yet; it formed me and grew me in ways I would not have otherwise grown. That was a part of my life experience, which has given me much to draw from in other opportunities.

There were about five  years, if I remember right, that I worked in the medical field as a certified medical assistant. Those were extremely fulfilling times. I experienced and learned things that would make me a stronger, better person in the years to come.

And of course, there are the past eighteen years of owning and working in our own organizational leadership ministry. An experience that has stretched me beyond words at times. While I have loved the travels, meeting new and interesting people, speaking at events, seeing places I’d only read about; there were also the grueling days, and nights, of putting together materials, of keeping up with billing, managing the staff, working the budgets, keeping all the balls in the air. Let me tell you, owning or running a company is not for the fainthearted.

Again, all of these things have made me the person I am today. Each experience has grown me, has made me better; more like the person He wants me to become.

With that, I challenge you. What is God doing in your life right now? Are you moving forward – or are you sitting back, taking life easy, perhaps waiting?

Where is He urging you to go that may feel very much out of your comfort zone? How will you answer that call?

Whatever it is that God wants of you today, just give it your best. That is more than enough.
